The Gospel of John and the Theme of the Son of God

I have to write this paper tracing the theme of the Son of God and Messiah through the Gospel of John. It is amazing to me all the claims in the Gospel of John that Jesus makes that we just casually read over. He claimed to be the Son of God, to be equal with God in nature, power, and authority, but yet somehow liberal scholars want to make it seem like he was dubious. Very interesting to me.
